JOHNSTON, DONALD B. May 12,1929 to February 17, 2013 Donald B. Johnston passed away Sunday, February 17th, in Carlsbad. He was born May 12, 1929 in Evanston, Illinois to Robert and Ruth Johnston. He graduated from New Trier Township High and Michigan State University with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration. He was affiliated with Lambada Chi Alpha Fraternity. After graduation, Don joined the United States Navy and served for 28 years retiring at the rank of Captain in the Naval Reserve in 1989. He was a veteran of the Korean War. He worked for Container Corporation and later Jefferson Smurfit and retired as Senior Vice President. In retirement he served as Chairman of the Resident Council of La Costa Glen. Don is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dolores, a daughter, Jeri Malone (Mike) two sons, Robert, (Pam) and Mark. He is also survived by six grand-daughters, Lauren, Shannon, Katherine, Elizabeth, Moira and Julia. A "Celebration of Don's Life" will be held Friday, March 1st, at 11 a.m. at The Village Church in Rancho Santa Fe. A buffet will follow the service at La Costa Glen Catalina Hall in Carlsbad. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Village Church or the Building Fund at Scripps Encinitas Hospital.
