DONALD C. POLLARD Obituary
POLLARD, DONALD C. Jan. 29, 1930 to Jan. 2, 2013 Donald Carlyle Pollard was the oldest of seven children born to Harold and Kathryn Pollard. He was born January 29th, 1930 in Topeka, Kansas (on Kansas Day) and passed away January 2nd, 2013 from complications of Alzheimer's. When he was nine years old, the family moved to Richland, WA where he grew up and graduated from Richland High School. He immediately enlisted in the Army in July, 1948 and served during the Korean war as a radio intercept operator. In 1952, he was honorably discharged and enrolled In Washington State University in Pullman, WA. where he earned a bachelors degree in Police Science. After graduating in January, 1957 he headed south to thaw out from the Washington cold and after a short time in San Francisco ended up in Los Angeles, CA where he met the love of his life, Vivienne Haefliger and they were married one year later. Don went to work for an insurance company as an adjuster/appraiser for auto claims and was transferred to San Diego by his company in 1959. He became self employed, starting Suncoast Appraisal Service in 1980 and contracted with several local companies to handle their auto claims. He retired in 1996 and spent his retirement enjoying travel, leisure activities and golfing. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, his two sons, Stephen Carlyle, born June 13, 1963 and Robert Francis, born March 21, 1965, two twin granddaughters, Jessica and Melissa, three brothers, Robert (Mary) of Gig Harbor, WA, Jim (Vickie) of Toledo, OR, Glenn (Betty) of Seal Rock, OR and one sister Sandra Nieto (Jerry) of Waldport, OR and many nieces and nephews. Services will be held at St. Therese Catholic Church January 30th at 11:00 a.m., 6016 Camino Rico, San Diego, 92120. Interment will be at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery. The family wishes to express their deep appreciation for all the love, prayers and support they have received especially during the past year.
