ASKEW, DONALD G. July 29, 1919 to March 8, 2011 Donald G. Askew was born in Adrian, Missouri in 1919. He grew up on the family farm with three brothers and one sister. In 1942, he married Wilda Jones from the nearby town of Austin. During World War II, Don served as a medical technician in the U.S. Army Air Corps in Australia and the Philippines. After the war, he began work as an auto body repairman in Kansas City. He and his wife moved to the San Diego area in 1955, where they enjoyed living in homes they built for themselves in Lemon Grove and La Mesa, and raising two sons, Kent and Kevin. Don applied his metalworking trade for 28 years at Naval Air Station North Island. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of San Diego for 47 years. Donald died of heart failure on March 8 in his home in La Mesa, and is survived by his wife and two sons. Memorial services held March 16th at Conrad Lemon Grove Mortuary. Interment will occur at Miramar National Cemetery.
