E. Janet Braun Obituary
Braun, E. Janet SAN DIEGO -- Emmeline Janet "Jan" Braun, 93, passed away at Emeritus - Carmel Valley Skilled Nursing Facility in San Diego, California on September 15, 2013. Ms. Braun was born in England on November 12, 1919, in Bromley, Kent. She was the daughter of Herbert and Vi Woodhams, and sister of Denys, Brian, and Norah. With her husband Herbert, Ms. Braun left England and traveled extensively, living in Africa, Canada, and the United States. After her husband's death, Jan moved to San Diego, where she became the first Business Officer for the University of California, San Diego Department of Pathology. She retired about 25 years ago. Jan was an avid gardener, bird watcher, and tennis player. She loved cats and dogs. A nature enthusiast, her favorite animal was the penguin. She is survived by niece (Nona) and grand-niece (Colleen) in Canada and nephew (Peter) in England. The family recalls how much they enjoyed Jan's dry wit. "Jan set the standards for the smooth running of the UCSD Department of Pathology and transitioned numerous department chairs into their job, including myself. Many of her policies are still in effect today, and she has left her indelible mark on the Department. Jan's charm and wit were unparalleled," said David N. Bailey, M.D., former Chair of the UCSD Department of Pathology. Joy Glenner, founder of the George G. Glenner Alzheimer's Family Centers, Inc. recalls Jan as "a regal blithe spirit," who was so proud of her accomplishments at UC San Diego. At Ms. Braun's request, there will be no memorial service.
