Edmond Eugene Arrant Obituary
Edmond Eugene Arrant 12/17/1915 ~ 09/30/2012 ENCINITAS-- "Gene" Arrant was born in Talbotton, Ga., where he grew up on the family farm. After graduation from Talbotton High School in 1933, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1934. He served in the Pacific Theatre of World War II, with the Second Marine Division, and also in the Korean War, with the First Marine Division making the Inchon landing. CWO "Gunner" Arrant held numerous area combat medals with many battle stars for both wars. He held the U. S. Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal with two stars. He was wounded during the initial landing on Betio Island, Tarawa Atoll on November 20, 1943 and was awarded the Purple Heart. After retiring from the Corps in 1959, he remained a life member of the Second Marine Division Association. Gene and his beloved wife, "Clemmie," who died in 1978, are survived by three sons, Philip, Glenn, Richard, and their wives, are all residents of North San Diego County. Gene is also survived by seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Gene's second wife, Mardelle, died in 2006. Memorial services, with full military honors, will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, October 15th, at Eternal Hills in Oceanside, Calif. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to any of his favorite organizations: Second Marine Division Association's Scholarship Fund, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina 28547; or Military Outreach Ministry, serving enlisted Marine Corps families, Camp Pendleton, CA. 92055.
