Edward J. Stancik Obituary

Stancik, Edward J. CARLSBAD -- Edward Joseph Stancik passed away peacefully on October 15th, 2012. He was born on November 22,1919 to Frank and Apollona Stancik of Woodbridge, New Jersey. He was the youngest of five children. After graduating from Rutgers University, he enlisted in the US Army during WWII where he was assigned to the European Theatre and served as a German translator. He also spent time playing trumpet in Glenn Miller's Army Air Force band. After completing his enlistment, he received a Masters degree in Education at Columbia University. In 1943, he married Helen Fairfield Luening. Ed moved his family to Phoenix, Arizona in the early 50s where he was a teacher, counselor and administrator for the high school and Junior College in the Phoenix Unified School District. Ed also attended Stanford University where he received his PhD. In 1960, the family relocated to Orange, Calif., where he began working as a consultant for SRA/IBM. Sadly his wife Helen, passed away in 1982 from breast cancer. Ed was an avid golfer throughout his lifetime and when he moved to Oceanside in 1986 after his retirement, he lived at El Camino Country Club where he enjoyed golfing every day. At the age of 80, Ed met and married Juanita Stark Jones ~ the second love of his life. They lived in Vista until Juanita passed away in her sleep in 2004. Ed moved to Carlsbad by the Sea Retirement Community where he spent the remainder of his days enjoying the ocean breeze. Ed will be remembered as a kind and generous husband and father who will be missed by his family and friends. Ed is survived by his daughters, Helen (Bob) Gitch of Citrus Heights, Lynne (Ken) Secrest of Santa Clarita, and Lee Anne (Joe) De Maria of Oceanside; and six grandchildren, Kim, Corey, Jessica, Garrett, Marissa, and Laura. He was predeceased by his wives, Helen and Juanita; his brothers, Ronald and Clem; his sisters, Angelina and Anne; and his grandson, Erik. There will be a Celebration of his Life at 2 p.m., on Saturday, November 24, at Carlsbad by the Sea Retirement Home in Carlsbad. Sign the Guest Book online obits.nctimes.com
