ELIZABETH "BETTY" DONAIS Obituary
DONAIS, ELIZABETH "BETTY" Born Elizabeth Jane Ferk-ovich to Steve and Leona in Mellen, Wisconsin. Betty moved to San Diego in 1946. She attended San Diego High School where she proudly served as the Head Majorette leading the band. In 1951, she led the Marine Corps Band in the Rose Parade. She is survived by brother, Ron Ferkovich; two children, Donna Cottingham (Joe) and David Donais; two grandchildren, Ryan Cottingham (Brooke) and Sommer Kehrli (John), four great-grand-children, Taylor and Drew Cottingham; and Kate and Jack Kehrli; and many loving nieces and nephews. She was married to Leroy Donais for 25 years. Betty was co-founder, 34 year fundraiser, and President of the Advisory Board for the East County Meals on Wheels. An active Board Member of NARFE having retired from the El Cajon Post Office. She received awards from the Soroptomists as Woman of Action, nominated El Cajon City Woman of the Year, and was donned the George C. Scott award. She was a 10 year volunteer at McAlister Institute. She was an active fundraiser for YLI at Holy Trinity Church in El Cajon where her Memorial Mass will be celebrated on November 16, 2012, at 1 p.m. Betty enjoyed people, travel, fishing, camping, reading, making jewelry, and putting on parties. Betty died on November 8, 2012. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Trinity Monastery at St. David, AZ, where Betty was a 34 year Benedictine Oblate.
