Emma Gossett Obituary
Gossett, Emma SAN DIEGO -- Emma Gossett died peacefully surrounded by family at Nazareth House on January 11, 2014, at the age of 100. She was born on October 30, 1913, to Jacob and Anna Fritzler in Cincinnati, Ohio. The family later moved to Michigan Emma was raised and educated in Saginaw, Michigan, where she married the late William Andrew "Andy" Gossett. For many years they owned and operated the Gossett Funeral Home in Saginaw and where Emma supported Andy during his terms as County Coroner. Later they owned a popular nightclub "Ravena Gardens" in Saginaw. They retired, traveled, and settled in San Diego in 1984. A little over nine years ago, it came time for Emma to enter assisted living at Nazareth House. She quickly became their bingo champion, an enthusiastic singer at the many social functions, and a participant in the activities this marvelous facility offered her. She was truly happy and surrounded by love. Our very special thanks to staff of Nazareth House and the Friends of Nazareth who became a treasured part of our family. Her passing and our grief were much eased by the wonderful support of Sharp HospiceCare. We lost a devoted mother, friend, mentor, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by daughters Florine (Arthur) DuRussel, Saginaw, Michigan; Patricia (Shain) Haug, San Diego, California; Judy (Jim) Grube, Austin, Texas; and son James Gossett, Gladwin, Michigan. Per her request her remains were given to the UCSD Medical School. Services will be held at Nazareth House, 6333 Rancho Mission Road, San Diego, CA 92108, on January 24, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name can be made to Nazareth House or Sharp HospiceCare, Sharp HospiceCare, 8881 Fletcher Parkway, Suite 336, La Mesa, CA 91942.
