Obituary Condolences

WILLIAMS, ETHEL "CHINA", REV. Minister, teacher and generous supporter of local civic and cultural activities, "China" passed away September 11, 2012, at age 83 in Long Beach, CA. Born in Shanghai, China where her father served as a Marine Officer, she later acquired the nickname, China, from her elementary school classmates. As a member of a Marine Corps family, China attended schools in Virginia, California, Hawaii and Texas. She earned her undergraduate degrees at San Diego State and later Doctorate of Divinity from Unity College in Missouri. Married to Robert "Scotty" Williams, the family had two daughters, Joanie Bristol and Sara M'Ira; four grandchildren, Jason, Nicole, Aaron and Elijah; and two great-grandchildren, Daniell and Micah. She is also survived by a brother Colonel Joe and Belén Smith. After her 30-year career teaching local junior high school students, China was ordained as a Unity minister, established a Spring Valley Unity Church and served as associate pastor of El Cajon's Unity Church. Throughout life, China was enriched by the travel to Europe, Israel, Latin America and the Orient, music and the arts, and a multitude of friends and associates. She was a thoughtful friend and will be greatly missed by those whose lives she touched. A "Celebration of Life' will be presented by Rev. Arthur Hammons and will be held at Unity Church, 311 Highland Ave., El Cajon, at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 22, 2012.
