Filiberto N. Castro Obituary
Castro, Filiberto N. 1943 ~ 2013 SAN DIEGO -- Filiberto N. Castro, more affectionately known as Richard or Junior died Monday, June 3, 2013 at the age of 69. He was born August 5, 1943 in Walsenburg, Colorado. He served our country in the Navy aboard the USS Saint Paul where he aided in Post-Korea and fought in the Vietnam War. He also had the privilege of playing poker with John Wayne while the ship was being used for the film In Harm's Way. Afterwards, he settled in San Diego and is survived by his three children, Daniel, Rebecca and Monica; his two grandchildren, Robert and Daniel Jr.; and his great-granddaughter, Maya. He was a supportive father-figure who spent countless hours coaching and attending baseball, and softball games. Later in life he became a distinguished member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #3142. He loved life and lived it well, and mentioned before his passing that one of his favorite things in the world was watching Mario Delgado play baseball. He will be missed and remembered by many.
