Francis X. King Obituary
King, Francis X. SAN DIEGO -- Dr. King, born Sept. 20, 1922, died in his sleep on Feb. 13, 2013. A graduate of San Diego State College, PhD in Human Behavior from United States International University. He served in the U.S. Army Infantry in Europe during WWII, awarded the Purple Heart. He also served as French interpreter. Upon graduating from S.D. State in 1947, he went to Switzerland for graduate work, in Geneva, then in Lausanne. There, he met and married his wife of 62 years, Henrietta, who died in 2010. They moved with their first child to San Diego in 1949. Frank had a long career with San Diego City Schools as a foreign language, history and journalism teacher, and as an administrator whose accomplishments included the district's desegregation plan, establishment of Wright Brothers Vocational High School and creation of the nation's first dual- language immersion program. Frank is survived by his children Francis P. King of Bonita; Henrietta M. Engstrom of Deale, MD; Michael P. King of El Cajon; Thomas S. King and Lawrence M. King, both of San Francisco; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Private interment at Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery.
