Obituary Condolences

iconSOUTH, GERALDINE "GERI" Geraldine "Geri" South passed peacefully at age 77 on September 19, 2012, of complications resulting from a recent automobile accident. Adopted at birth, Geri was a loyal alumnus of the Academy of Our Lady of Peace and later attended what was then San Diego State College. Geri was a fiercely independent, single mother who proudly raised two sons, Steve and Matthew, who embraced their mother's guidance to discover fulfillment in life. Also a devoted woman of faith, she worked in various positions within the Catholic Church, including at St. Patrick's Church in North Park, Mission San Diego de Alcala and Immaculate Conception Church in Old Town, and ensured both of her sons graduated from St. Augustine High School. Geri made the average an adventure and the unusual common. She had the capacity to touch an extraordinary number of people in all walks of life, often with little understanding of her impact. In her own unique way, she achieved the ultimate goal of leaving the world better than she found it. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that the reader perform a random act of kindness with no recognition whatsoever and reflect on the positive impact of that action. In the event that is not of interest, a glass of white wine at sunset in Geri's honor will do. Geri is survived by her sons, daughter-in-law Tracy, grandchildren Trevor and Abigail, sister-in-law Rita, and a very large number of extended family and dear friends. A memorial Mass and reception will be held Sept. 27, 2012 at 4 p.m. at the St. Augustine Chapel, 3266 Nutmeg St., in North Park.
