Captain Gregory Joseph George Obituary
Gregory, George J., Capt. OCEANSIDE -- Captain Gregory Joseph George, 60, of Oceanside, CA, passed away on Tuesday, November 26, 2013. He was born to Marilyn George, Jan 17, 1953 in Newcastle, PA. Greg graduated from Chaminade High School and received a Bachelors of Nautical Science from the California Maritime Academy in 1976. He married Vicki Lynn Poudrier in 1977, and they lived together in Seattle, WA before relocating to Oceanside in 1982. A ship's Captain for the Merchant Marine, and a member of the Masters Mates and Pilots, Greg's maiden voyage was with Trans-Oceanic Cable Company on the SS Longline. Over his 37 years of sailing, Greg traveled through every ocean and ventured to many exotic ports. He made his final voyage as Master on the M/V Maersk Denver. A passionate sports fisherman, BBQ pit master, avid book reader, and a world traveler, Greg enjoyed countless vacations and adventures with his wife. He loved to entertain his friends and family with amazing food, both caught by his hand or cooked on his grill. Greg is survived by his wife Vicki, two children Jessica and Dustin, and grand- daughter Vivian. He is also survived by his mother Marilyn, and sisters Laurie, Missy, and Julie. He is warmly welcomed by his late brother David. His memory is cherished by innumerable family and friends. A celebration of his life will be held on January 18, 2014 at his residence. The fish rejoice.
