Obituary | Condolences

CHADWELL, HELEN FIFIELD Helen Fifield Chadwell passed away peacefully Friday, November 23, 2012, with her loving family around her. Helen was born in Buffalo, New York on July 31, 1929, and reared in Plattsburgh, New York and Baltimore, Maryland. In 1944 her family moved to Los Angeles where Helen attended Los Angeles High School, then on to The University of Southern California pledging Delta Gama Sorority. While at USC she met the love of her life, A. Ben Chadwell Jr., and they were married March 30, 1950. Helen is survived by her husband of sixty-three years, sons Brandon, Brent and Bryan, granddaughters Lindsay, Amanda, Heather, Callie and grandson Nicholas. While their sons were growing up, Helen, Ben and the boys spent their summers traveling in their various motor homes fly fishing in Northern California, Colorado, Montana and the Pacific Northwest. Her favorite time was spent at their friend's ranch in Colorado near Durango. After the children were grown, Helen and Ben enjoyed cruising to Mexico and Puget Sound aboard yachts of fellow San Diego Yacht Club members. Trips also included African safaris, Australia, New Zealand, the South Pacific, Europe and Central America. Helen was a devoted homemaker and had her hands full with three boys but found time to be active in a Unit of Children's Hospital. Christmas was special and every holiday at the Chadwell residence was beautifully decorated with her needlepoint creations. Helen was an angel in every sense, she is loved and will forever be in our thoughts and prayers. A "Celebration of Life" is planned for 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 5th, at the San Diego Yacht Club. In lieu of flowers, her family requests donations to the Rady Childrens Hospital San Diego or Salvation Army
