iconLYONS, JAMES IRWIN LCDR, USN August 1, 1925 to Feb. 23, 2012 Lieutenant Commander James Irwin Lyons was a native San Diegan, with many lines of his family tree tracing back generations to our great city. You can find some of his family history in Old Town, where his great-grandfather George Lyons was laid to rest as the seventh sheriff of San Diego County. James passed away peacefully at his home in Rancho Bernardo. He loved his family and his country, and was a proud Navy Veteran. He was preceded by his mother, father, and sister. He leaves behind his wife of 54 years, Phebe, son James Jr., and his wife Kari and their two kids Tyler and Danae, his daughter Helene and her husband Geoff and their two kids Conor and Kendall, and his youngest daughter Joy and her husband Rich. Services will be held on March 8, 2012, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 3598 Talbot Street, San Diego, CA 92106, at 12:30 p.m. Interment immediately following at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations payable to either the Midway Museum, 910 N. Harbor Dr., San Diego, CA 92101, Attn: Development Dept., memo area reading "James I. Lyons Memorial Fund", for a bench in James' honor, or to the Westminster Presbyterian Church, memo area reading "Community Garden Project".
