So sad to now find out about Mr Robbins passing. He was a very dear friend and customer of mine as I used to take care of his Honda. He really loved that car. I was always fascinated by his stories of his life. I'll miss him dearly.

Thank you all so much for your kind thoughts about my dad James (Robbie) Robbins. We miss him dearly, but I know he is up there with Mom, Frenchy, and all his friends maybe even hooking up with the friends he had to leave in Antarctica, Maxwell Lopez, Frederick Williams and Wendell Henderson. My fathers life mission was to bring these three brave men home to their loved ones. Again, thanks so much for the kind words. The last few years his memory was fading but he could recall every event that happened in Antarctica. He was 88 when he passed and I still wish I had a couple more years with him. Thanks so much, Jim Robbins

Dear Robbins Family,
Truly and deeply sorry for the passing of such a wonderful man. I met Robbie at the Mirage Inn where my parents reside and I always looked forward to seeing his bright smile, chatting a bit and enjoying his quick wit. He was a wonderful gentleman and is missed daily!

I am also a member of NARFE (active and retired federal employees),in the Palm Springs chapter, as was Robbie. We were so honored to have him speak at one of our chapter meetings about his experience in Antarctica when the mission's plane went down. He brought publications and photos documenting the events and shared his personal story with us. We were in the presence of a hero, and I feel privileged to have known him the short time that I did. My deepest condolences go out to all the family --- you can be so proud of who he was and the selfless service he performed throughout his life for others.

Dear Jimmy, I am so saddened to hear of the death of "my Uncle Beer" We loved him so much. I don't know if you remember, but we named our oldest son Jamie Dale after your wonderful mom and dad. Please let us know when the services are. I don't know if we missed it or if we can make it, but I'd love to try to be there. Jan Castille (Frenchy's daughter) I'm sure there's quite a party going on in heaven now!!!!

I am so very sad to learn, just today, of "Uncle Beer's" passing. He and my Dad, Frenchy, were friends to the end. I can only assume that he and Dad are together in heaven having a beer. We always considered him and Aunt Dale as part of our family and kept in touch until recently and now I know why. Jim, you and your family have our thoughts and prayers. We loved your Mom and Dad very very much. Sincerely, Corinne Dupuy - youngest daughter of Frenchy and Mary LeBlanc.

As a long time member of 5-star support group,I have fond memories of Robbie helping everyone by getting the Thursday morning coffee ready. I was often in the facility where he eventually resided. Made a point of saying "hello" to him and reminded him of his 5-star contributions. Definitely a "people person" to the end.

Dear Jim,
I know of Robbie from Eisenhower's Five Star Group. I didn't know him very well as he was leaving as I was joining the support group. However as the person responsible for sending out email notices to our support members I talked to several people to get a feel for this most remarkable man. I heard lots of praise, fond memories, and genuine love for your Dad. He will be missed by so many. He definitely made an important impact on those around him. He was a true hero and I thank him and your family for his service to our country. I think there is a great book there waiting to be written. If you would like to see the email I sent to Five Star members you can email me at: [email protected] and I will send you a copy.
Best regards, Carol O'Rourke, Rancho Mirage

As with Ann O'Keefe, I've known Robbie for years through our NARFE Palm Springs Chapter. He was such a kind and interesting man with so many stories to share about his experiences in the Antartica. Rest in peace Robbie and hopefully you are now having a wonderful reunion with all your friends who were never found following the plane wreck. I'm sure they appreciated all your efforts to try to find and return their bodies to their loved ones. My sincere condolences go out to Robbie's family. Carol Tiffin

To Robbie's Family: I was so sorry to read of Robbie's passing. I knew him through NARFE (retired and active federal employees) as he was an active member of the Palm Springs Chapter for years. In fact, in January of 2008 Robbie was the Chapter's "program," when he recounted his experiences of December 29, 1946, when (as you told in his beautiful obituary) his military plane crashed in the Antartica and he helped other survivors of the crash to survive for days. He also told of his yearslong effort to have the bodies of those who perished returned for proper burial. Later, I saw Robbie often at the Eisenhower Five-Star Alzheimer's Support group where he volunteered his services to those of us who were caring for a loved one with Alzheimer's. He was a wonderful man. Please accept my deepest condolences. Ann O'Keefe

Dear Jim, so sorry to hear of your loss. My sisters and I have fond memories of growing up across the street from "The Robbins Nest". I will mention this to my Dad (Earl Credland). I'm sure he has fond memories as well. We have some old videos, too. Condolences to you and your family. Christine (Credland) Sterne

Robbie was a colleague of mine at NAVALEX, San Diego. We became friends when he learned that I was going on a trip to Antarctica. He shared his scrapbook with me detailing his adventure down there. The last time I contacted him he was trying to get the military to go down there to retrieve the remaining bodies of his expedition and give them a decent burial. That's Robbie...he was true to his friends. And he was a decent man. I'm sure he is in a much better place now. He deserves it.

Robbins family. Robbie was a treasure to many of us from his Midway Island Group. He was so unselfish in trying to get the Govt to go get his pals left behind from the George 1 crash.I'm sorry he won't be here to see it one day. His work advanced the hope of recovery. He was so in love with his Dolly & he cared for her & passed along the knowledge he gained battling Alz. We will all miss him & offer our sympathy to your family. Robbie was a true Hero & loved this country & his shipmates as well all of you. I'm pleased to have been his friend.
