John Kettenring Obituary

KETTENRING, JOHN "JAKE" "JACK" Oct. 26, 1924 to August 25, 2009 John "Jake" "Jack" Kettenring, passed away Tuesday, August 25, 2009, due to a lung disease known as COPD. Jake leaves behind his wife, Phyllis "Nickie" and various nieces and nephews. He was a 30-year Navy veteran and a member of Submarine Veterans of World War II. He was also a member of Scamp Base of USSVI, an organization formed by sailors who entered service after World War II. He served in Submarines from 1942-1972 and retired as a Master Chief Quartermaster. His ashes will be scattered at sea by Telephase, per his wishes. In lieu of flowers, a contribution in his memory sent to Elizabeth Hospice will be greatly appreciated. Their address is 150 W. Crest Street, Escondido, CA 92025.

I also want to thank you for being a good shipmate. You were always there to answer all my questions. You said there was never a dumb question just a dumb answer ..........

I first met John in 1957 when I reported to USS Charr as a JG fresh out of submarineschool. John kindly took me in tow and showed me the ropesof conning Charr.
