1920 - 2014 | Obituary Condolences
Siegel, John Marcus 01/31/1920 ~ 7/25/2014 OCEANSIDE/ CARLSBAD -- North County businessman John Marcus Siegel was born to Fred and Jeanette Siegel on January 31, 1920 in Los Angeles, Calif. He attended UCLA and was the captain of the waterpolo team until he joined the U.S. Army and was shipped to the European Theatre. There he fought in the Battle of the Bulge, where he was injured and received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. John returned home and took over his father's theatre business in partnership with his brother in Oceanside and Carlsbad, Calif. In 1955 he married his wife for life, Renee. John enjoyed tennis and golf at El Camino Country Club and La Costa. John died peacefully in his home in Oregon, Friday, July 25, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife, Renee; his daughter Carole Laughlin; son-in-law Larry Laughlin; grandsons John, Michael and his wife Alissa, David and Peter Laughlin of Oregon; and his brother Robert Siegel of Carlsbad. A Mass of Remembrance was held Saturday, August 2 at Saint Francis Church in Sherwood, Ore. "God Bless Grandpa!"
