Joycelyn Virginia Wright Obituary
Wright, Joycelyn Virginia 03/01/1922 ~ 04/19/2013 OCEAN BEACH -- Joycie was born in Conrad, Montana, had a short stay in San Antonia, Texas, and arrived at Ocean Beach, July of 1931. She fell in love with the sand, surf, bays, and swimming pools of sunny San Diego. Give her a good book, a beach chair, a beach or pool umbrella, bright sun, and she was in paradise. In her later years she gravitated to swimming pools. Joycie attended Ocean Beach Elementary, Roosevelt Jr. High, and graduated from San Diego High in 1940 gathering a host of life-long friends along the way. She married the love of her life, Nolan Wright, in 1940. Together they embarked on a very active, rewarding life journey. She and Nolan accumulated an abundance of wonderful friends along the way. She had a delightfully humorous personality. Joycie was a wonderful hostess and truly enjoyed entertaining family and friends. A lover of animals, she always had several cherished pets surrounding her. She contributed generously to animal care organizations and served a term on the Humane Society Board of Directors. Joycelyn was preceded in death by her husband Nolan in 2004, her parents Drs. Eula and Howard Watters, sister Laurel Whipple and Norman Whipple. She is survived by her brother Virgil Watters and Harriette Watters, nieces Gretchen Embree, Loretta Keith, Christine Koll and Terri Rogers, and their families. Joycie will be interned next to Nolan in the Dallas Park Cemetery situated on a hill above Ridgeway, Colorado in the Rocky Mountains surrounded by high peaks, forest and meadow. Why? Well it all started with an elk hunting trip in 1942. It's a long and convoluted story that has a happy ending, too long a tale for here and now.
