Lola Mestis King, 84 years old, passed away, at home, among her loved ones, on December 22, 2012. Mrs. King resided in Mount Vernon, Washington.|
She was born Lola Mestis in San Diego, California on April 8, 1928 in a small blue house which sat on the corner of what is now Pacific Highway and Beech Street. She attended elementary school in Little Italy and middle school in the Balboa Park neighborhood. Mrs. King began working at 14 years of age to assist her loving family. As a young adult she worked in San Diego's historic Canning Industry. Soon after, Mrs. King began working at Mesa Vista Hospital as a cook, she continued in this field until retirement. She relocated to Washington State in 1976 to be closer to her son, Rick.
Throughout her life, Mrs. King enjoyed spending time with her Family, cooking, walking, gardening and reading. Lola and Wayne King would make a yearly drive to San Diego during the winter to enjoy southern California and visit Family. She has now made her final return to sunny San Diego.
Lola King is daughter to Julia Torres and Luis Mestis; her siblings Manuel and Henrietta predeceased Mrs. King. She is survived by her husband Wayne King, son Rick Mestis and wife Jackie Mestis, stepchildren Garry and Desiree' Volk, Michael and Jaime Volk, Jill Marsden, Ann and Daniel Stuart, granddaughter Lindsay Knaus, niece Sylvia Robles, grand-niece Teresa Long and husband Jimmy Long, grand- niece Dawn Robles, grand-nephew Michael Robles, great-grand-nephews Cody Long and Gabriel Trembly, cousins Genevieve and Becky Granillo and Johnny Campos.
Loving Family and friends will gather for Mass at Holy Family Catholic Church on January 12, 2012 at 9:00 a.m., 1957 Coolidge Street, San Diego, CA. 92111. All are welcome to attend services.
