MARY ELIZABETH HONNOLD Obituary
HONNOLD, MARY ELIZABETH Mary Elizabeth Honnold, age 90, of Iowa City, Iowa, died Sunday, March 18, 2012, at the Marengo Memorial Hospital, Marengo, Iowa. Mary resided in the San Diego area for over 20 years. She was blessed with many friends during her time there. Mary Elizabeth Berg was born June 27, 1921 in Clearfield, Iowa, the daughter of Robert Gustav Berg and Dolly Stamper Berg. She graduated from Clearfield High School as valedictorian of the Class of 1938. She attended Creston Junior College for two years and the University of Iowa for a year. Mary was united in marriage to Charles Arthur Honnold on June 12, 1942 in Creston, Iowa. She enjoyed music, both piano and vocal, and was an avid reader. Mary remained stateside while Charles served in the U.S. Army for two years during World War II. Mary served as a volunteer at the patient library at the University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City and also was a patient advocate at the Veterans Hospital, in Iowa City, IA. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be missed by her family and friends. Mary is survived by her sons, Dr. Charles Honnold of Iowa City, IA and Mark Honnold (Lois) of Kimberling City, MO; a daughter Mary Christina Yunker (Stephen) of San Diego and Maui, HI; six grandchildren, Jeff Honnold of Pittsburg, PA, Erik Christopher Yunker (Linda) of Mesa, AZ, Brent Honnold (Amanda) of Nevada, IA, Julia Maldonado of Wood Village, OR, James Yunker of Makawao, HI and Christina Yunker of San Francisco, CA; and five great-grandchildren. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Charles Arthur Honnold, and a sister Louise Mogck. A memorial service was held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 20, 2012, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, Iowa. Inurnment in Clearfield Cemetery, Clearfield, Iowa.
