Obituary Condolences

WERNER, MARY ELLEN Mc MAHAN Mary Ellen Mc Mahan Werner, 83, died December 10, 2012. She was the wife of Elmer Charles Werner, M.D. Mrs. Werner, daughter of Robert T. and Flossie Thompson Mc Mahan of Cincinnati, Ohio, was born July 14, 1929. She graduated from Western Hills High School in Cincinnati in 1948 and completed her nurse's training at the Deaconess School of Nursing in 1953. She started her nursing career as the night supervisor at the Deaconess Hospital and later traveled to Santa Monica California to work at St. John's Hospital in the newborn nursery. Dr. and Mrs. Werner moved to the Imperial Valley in California in 1962. Always active in community service, Mrs. Werner served as a leader of the Cub Scouts, Brownies, and Camp Fire Girls and was a member of the Soroptimist Club. She was also an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in El Centro, CA. An accomplished swimmer and diver, Mrs. Werner taught young children how to swim in her backyard pool in order to prevent childhood drowning incidents. From 1973 to 1985 she was the administrator of the Valley Convalescent Hospital. She served on the Imperial County Comprehensive Health Board and served on the Imperial County Grand Jury. She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert T. Mc Mahan; and sisters, Helen Griffith and Ethel Jane Roman. She is survived by her husband, Elmer "Bud" Werner of Rancho San Diego, CA; sister, Marion Young of Gulf Shores, AL; daughter, Katherine Werner Ciano of Kamuela, HI; sons, Charles Elmer Werner of St. Louis, MO; and Joseph Werner of Blossom Valley, CA; and daughters, Elizabeth Werner of La Mesa, CA; and Victoria Werner Ruffin of Wichita, KS; 12 grandchildren, four great-grand-children, and many special friends, nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at a memorial service at 11:30 a.m., on Saturday, December 15th, at La Vida Real, 11588 Via Rancho San Diego, El Cajon, CA, followed by a reception. Memorial contributions can be sent to the or the CMT Association.
