Robert L. "Bob" Thurman Obituary
Thurman, Robert L. "Bob" SAN DIEGO -- Robert L. "Bob" Thurman, born November 8, 1923, in Mitchell, South Dakota. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1940. He was a Pearl Harbor survivor. He was assigned to two ships in the South Pacific campaign, during his service time, the USS Breese and the USS Eversole . He was a Machinist Mate 1st class. He married a Navy WAVE, Ester (Dutch) Van Hoorebeke in 1945 and was married for sixty-eight years, resided in Lemon Grove for sixty-three years. He was the father of two sons, Robert and Sheri, and Richard. He was employed by La Salle trucking and later Pacific Molasses, where he was an accomplished mechanic, welder, pipe fitter, and electrician and retired in 1985. He leaves behind wife Ester, sons Robert and Richard, grandchildren, Bobby (Jennifer E.), Kenny (Jennifer L.), Pollyana Pero (David) and many great-grandchildren. His circle of life was completed on October 15, 2013.
