Rosario "Russ" Asaro Obituary
Asaro, Rosario "Russ" SAN DIEGO -- Rosario Asaro passed away on August 7, 2013. He was born on August 29, 1935 in Mazara Del Vallo, Sicily. He immigrated with his parents to the United States in April of 1937 and settled in San Diego. He attended Washington Elementary, Roosevelt Middle and San Diego High School, graduating in 1953. Shortly after graduating, he served 4 years in the U.S. Navy. He then went on to take over his father's tavern business and remained in that industry for 42 years. He was best known for the Navajo Inn, which he owned for 35 years. He was predeceased by his parents Giuseppe and Angela Asaro and his sister Brigida Maria Rallo. He is survived by his beloved companion of 11 years Barbara Dennis, his former wife Linda Casey, sisters Frances Sciuto (Leo), Mary Ellen Ferrantelli (Peter), brother-in-law Gaetano Rallo, son Steven Asaro (Michele), daughter Christina Dinan (Tim), grandchildren Antonia and Sofia Dinan and Joey and Anthony Asaro, as well as his many nieces, nephews and their children. Rosario was a man whose family meant everything. He enjoyed good food, good wine and good conversation. His sense of humor was off the charts and could take you by surprise. It's rare that you were in his company and weren't soon laughing. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten by his family and all who knew him. Especially by his grandchildren who affectionately knew him as "Nanu." A memorial mass will be held on Tuesday, August 20, at 3:00p.m. at Our Lady of the Rosary, 1668 State St. San Diego, CA 92101. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name to Sharp Hospice care, P.O. Box 1750, La Mesa, CA 91944-9927.
