RUTH C. LAUB Obituary
LAUB, RUTH C. Ruth C. Laub, 95, of Carlsbad, California, passed away on February 27, 2013. She was born in Boston, Mass., on October 5, 1917, to Melanie and Arthur Landry. Ruth is preceded in death by her first husband of 35 years, Arthur Hines, Sr., and her second husband of 33 years, John Laub. She is also preceded in death by siblings Barbara Hughes, Joseph Landry, Dorothy Bellamy; and grandchild, Cory Spencer. After graduating from Framingham State Teachers College in Framingham, Mass., Ruth enjoyed a career in teaching elementary school in Massachusetts and also in California. She was an experienced reading specialist in both public schools and private Catholic schools. Her teaching career also included teaching English as a second language to foreign speaking adults. Ruth is survived by her three children, David Hines (Lois), Patricia Sutton (Gregory), and Arthur Hines, Jr., (Susan); step-daughter, Barbara Laub Audley (Bill); three grandchildren, Andrea Gammage (Bob); Scott Sutton (Paula) and Brad Sutton (Jasmine); five great-grandchil- dren, Angelo, Anthony, Tatiana, Jonathan, and Alison Sutton; step-grandchildren,Amanda Arante (Oscar) and son, Alex; Victoria Rajkowski (James) and son Noah. She is also survived by two siblings, Therese Murphy and Arthur Landry, Jr., (Gretchen). Ruth was an active member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church Parish in Oceanside, where she resided for more than 20 years before moving to Las Villas de Carlsbad Assisted Living Home in 2007. She had a special devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and took an active role as a member of and volunteer for various church activities, such as Women's Guild, Bible Study, Spirited Seniors, adult faith formation events, and the church library. Ruth was an avid bridge player and loved travel, especially cruising. She and her husband John enjoyed many social activities as residents of Ocean Hills Country Club, such as dancing, bocce, gourmet cooking, and RVing. The love of Ruth's life has always been her family. She remembered us all in her daily prayers, as we will always remember her in ours. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Carlsbad, on Monday, March 4, at 10 a.m. A private burial will take place on Tuesday, March 5 in Oxnard, California.
