Sara Alice Stone Obituary
Stone, Sara Alice 1924 ~ 2014 GREEN Valley, AZ -- Sara (Sally) Alice Stone passed away in Green Valley, Arizona, on March 4, 2014 at the age of 89. Sally was predeceased by her beloved husband of 40 years, Verne E. Stone. They were married in Carmel-by- the-Sea on March 14, 1964. Her daughter Margaret B. Heath passed away just a year ago. Sally is lovingly remembered by her niece and nephew Virginia and Christopher Jeans. Sally was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on July 10, 1924. She graduated from Walnut High School in 1941 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts from Carleton College in 1945. After college, she went to Japan to assist in the reconstruction initially as a reporter and later in financial services. After settling in Long Beach in the early 1950s, she worked as a Medical Secretary for ophthalmologists for many years until retirement. Sally was quietly adventurous. She received her solo flying certificate when just 16. She toured post-war Europe by herself on the way home from Japan. With Verne, she travelled widely throughout the U.S. collecting and restoring antiques. She enjoyed bridge and yard sales. She was deeply religious. She was an active member of the Evangelical Free Church of Green Valley during her final years. A service and burial for family and friends will be held at Dearborn Memorial Park, Poway, Calif., on Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made the Evangelical Free Church of Green Valley, 1393 W.
