Obituary Condolences

RYS, STANLEY J. April 1, 1920 to Dec. 6, 2012 Stanley Rys, passed away peacefully in his La Jolla home. His life was serving others. Growing up in Massachusetts, he loved fishing and was a baseball champ. World War II changed his dreams. He earned a Purple Heart and Bronze Medal from Normandy through V-Day. He helped war-refugees, served in the Mass. State Police, attended Fordham University and entered pharmacy. In 1956, with three boys under 5, Stan and his wife Sophie drove to visit California, and have been here ever since. Stan was among the first group of USC Doctor of Pharmacy graduates. Stan was a member of Mary Star of the Sea Church, American Legion, Scripps Hospital/Juvenile Diabetes Foundations, and many charities. His greatest contribution was giving of himself and his faith, especially to his family and the poor. In addition to Sophie, his wife of 63 years, Stan is survived by one daughter, Regina, six sons, Stanley Jr. (Janice), Paul, Frank (Olga), Robert (Silvar), Joseph (Maribeth), Christopher (Daniela), and five grand-daughters. He was predeceased by his brother, Walter, and his parents Mary and Joseph. Stan's burial service was at Miramar National Cemetery. A Memorial Mass will be Sat., Feb. 16th, at 10:30 a.m. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 7713 Girard Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations to the needy are suggested.
