Sylvia Helen Naliboff Obituary
Naliboff, Sylvia Helen SAN DIEGO -- Sylvia Helen Naliboff, 87, a longtime resident of San Diego, died on March, 30, 2014, at Sunrise of La Jolla from complication of Alzheimer's Disease. She was born in 1926 in San Diego to David and Elizabeth Horowitz and grew up in Chula Vista, graduating from Sweetwater High School in 1944. She loved to ride horses and dance and appeared in local USO shows during World War II. Following graduation, she spent one year at UCLA before returning to San Diego. She married Carl Naliboff in1948 and went on to have two boys, Jay and Bruce in 1950 and 1951. In later life, she worked as a secretary and volunteered at the La Jolla Playhouse and the San Diego Hospice. She loved the theater and the symphony, especially the evening Pops concerts, and enjoyed the company of new and lifelong friends. Sylvia is survived her son Jay Naliboff MD and his wife Jane of Chesterville, ME, and their three daughters Courtney Naliboff and her husband Bill Travaskis of North Haven Island, ME, Dr. Lauren Naliboff and her husband Nick Bessman of Philadelphia, PA, and Dana Naliboff and her husband Jonah McBride of Waltham, MA; son Bruce Naliboff and his wife Candace and their daughter Leah of Charlotte, NC; one impending great- granddaughter; and her sister Inez Jacobson and her husband Merrill of San Diego. A private celebration of life will be held for family and close friends. The family would like to especially thank the staff at Sunrise of La Jolla, VITAS Hospice, Rae and Ed Samiljan, Joyce Disraeli, Harriet Price, Sheila Weiner, her companion Nate Zechter, and all her friends and family who supported her throughout her illness. Donations may be made in her name to VITAS hospice.
