Vivienne Jacobson Obituary

Jacobson, Vivienne Born to medical missionaries in China, Vivienne brought joy to her father, Vivian, mother, Bernadine, and brother, Jimmie. Family vacations there sparked an interest in world travel that continued in adulthood. World War II prompted their return to a small South Carolina town, where she discovered her love for pecan pie, dogwoods, and fireflies. She earned a BA in biology from Agnes Scott College and a Masters from Yale Nursing School. This talented nurse with a movie-star smile found her heart in San Francisco and began a lifelong partnership with medical student, Charles Jacobson. With Charles, she had three daughters, Karen, Lisa, and Melanie. A PTA mom who chauffeured her daughters to dance and music lessons, she devoted her life to their enrichment and upbringing. When they left the nest, Vivienne updated her nursing credentials, earning top marks and a position at Grossmont Hospital. Her bedside manner brought comfort to patients. Her easy laugh endeared her to colleagues. Many admired her grace and courage as she faced a rare, debilitating illness for seven years. She died at home with family members present. Her husband, daughters, and five grandchildren cherish memories of her fits of giggles, fruit tart, vocal harmonizing, clever bridge plays, flair for holiday decorating, and the way she made us feel worthy, capable, and above all, loved. Donations may be made in her name to Cure PSP www.psp.org or Summit UU Fellowship: 8778 Cottonwood Ave Santee, CA 92071.

remember Vivienne fondly as a bright, happy, talented woman. We played bridge together and she was ever thoughtful and strategic in her play. She was quietly adoring and proud of her husband and daughters; delighted in her grandchildren. She will live in my memory.

The Jacobson family,
How proud I am to call Vivienne my aunt. She was a beautiful, elegant, kind woman who didn't need a spot-light to shine as she always had a beautiful glow of her own. I remember going with Evelyn,Esther and Charles to pick out her engagement ring downtown san Diego!I was young, but that I can remember:) My love to a wonderful family who has made and is making this world a better place!

Dear Charles,
It was with sadness that I read Vivienne's obituary in UT this morning. However, warm thoughts of past good times flooded my being. Vivienne was a lovely, bright, happy, kind person and loyal friend. She was a great Bridge player. She spoke lovingly about her daughters and grandchildren, shared stories of her childhood years. Alex and I have happy memories of our Holiday parties where we had the chance to converse w/Charles and share our mutual political and social views. My deepest sympathy to you and your family members. Alex joins me in this message. In Greek: ?????? ? µ??µ? t??. ??? se sa? = May her memory be eternal. Life to you.
Fondly,
Jeanette Rigopoulos
