BERNADETTE MARIE NESS PALHEGYI Obituary
PALHEGYI, BERNADETTE MARIE NESS October 12, 1929 to January 22, 2013 Bernadette M. Ness Palhegyi , "Bernie" and "Berna" to her family and friends, passed away on January 22, 2013 from liver failure. She was born in Wilkes-Barre, PA and moved to Wilmington DE at age 12. She was proud to serve in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Bernadette graduated from P.S. Du Pont High School and attended Goldey College for one year in Wilmington, DE. She was employed by P.S. Du Pont De Nemours, Inc., during and after high school as a messenger; Diamond Ice & Coal Company as a steno; US Army Procurement Agency (JPA), Yokohama, Japan as a clerk-steno; NS Audit Agency (foot of Broadway), NPWC, Naval Base, San Diego, CA as a secretary. During her tenure at NPWC, Naval Base, San Diego Bernadette received numerous Sustained Superior Performance Awards. She enjoyed her duties as a Den Mother in Yokohama, Japan visiting Ofuna Caves, Railway Museum, and the USS Ticonderoga aircraft carrier in Yokosuka. She and her Cub Scouts were given a tour of the aircraft carrier. They were educational trips and included American and Japanese Cubs. She graduated from Grossmont College with an AA in business and was associated with Mary Kay Cosmetics for 10 years. Travels as a Navy wife included Hawaii (as a territory), Cavite City, the Philippines, Midway Island, Korea and Japan. She also visited England and Scotland with her son Eric Ness and his family. The highlight of her travels was a trip to France to see the St. Bernadette Shrine at the Lourdes. Bernadette is a Father's Day 1999 (at age 69) whole liver transplant survivor and received a true miracle extending her life expectancy. She is also a breast cancer survivor. She was preceded in death by her son Clifford Ness and her husband Steve Palhegyi. She leaves behind her son Eric Ness, daughter-in-law Carolyn and daughter, Cynthia Wild, from her marriage to John Ness; grandchildren Wesley Gribben, William, Andrew, Samuel and Victoria Ness; great grandchildren Celia and Madeline Yazwinski; sisters Dorothy Shivery and Frances Bailey and husband Glenn; one aunt, nephews and cousins, and Goddaughter Dorothy Bennington. Viewing on Saturday, February 16th, from 11:00 a.m. until service time at Noon in the Salli Lynn Chapel at Greenwood Memorial Park, 4300 Imperial Ave., San Diego, 92113. Interment with Military Honors immediately following.
