Imelda Boyle Obituary
Boyle, Imelda 10/20/1925 ~ 05/22/2014 ESCONDIDO -- On May 22, 2014, Teresa Imelda "Mel" Boyle passed away after ten years of suffering from Alzheimer's while being comforted by family members at Silverado Senior Living, Escondido where she was a resident. Mel was 88 years old. A graveside service will be at 9 a.m. on Friday, June 6th, at Oak Hill Memorial Park in Escondido. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. at Church of the Resurrection, 1445 Conway Dr. Escondido. Arrangements are by Alhiser-Comer Mortuary. Imelda was born on October 20, 1925 in Creston, Iowa. She was the youngest child of John T., and Rose Carroll. Mel graduated with a B.S. in Nursing from St. Teresa's College, in Winona, Minnesota and received her RN from St. Mary's College, Rochester, Minnesota. In 1949, Mel and Dorothy (Hinkle) Calvet, best friend and fellow graduate, left the Midwest to work at a hospital in Hawaii. Arriving in Los Angeles, they learned the hospital had been destroyed; thus their careers began in Pasadena instead. Mel enjoyed dancing; she met her husband of 44 years, Peter, while attending Ceili dances. They married and lived in Pasadena, and Alhambra for over a decade before moving their family of 6 children to Escondido in 1967. She was devoted to her family and the many patients she cared for at various convalescent homes in Escondido during her 41 years as an RN. During her retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, researching family genealogy, and reading. Mel was predeceased by her husband Peter, as well as her parents, brother Joe, and sisters Virginia, Rosemary Zuttermeister, and Bernadette. She is survived by her daughters and in-laws, Kathleen Boyle, Patricia and Bill Harville, Pamela Patton, and Joan and Ken Downen; and by her sons and in-laws, John and Tomi, and Peter and Linda; as well as 8 grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Special thanks to: Candy Palacios; and to the staff and caregivers of Murrieta Gardens, Murrieta, and of Silverado Senior Living in Escondido. Memoriam donations may be made to the ; www.alz.org
