James Oscar Rogers Obituary
Rogers, James Oscar 07/23/1921 ~ 08/14/2014 OCEANSIDE-- Born in Stratford, Oklahoma on a 700-acre dairy farm, Jim worked the farm with his 16 brothers and sisters until graduating from high school. He then headed west to California. After two years, Jim joined the Marines Corps and served in the Pacific. For extra money he worked as a barber and decided to make barbering a career. He opened a barbershop in Oceanside where a year later he met Mickey and the two where married. A year later their only child, Ken, was born. Jim expanded his business and owned barber and beauty shops around the United States on and off military bases. He also owned a number of other business, shoe repair, TV rentals and repair, men's clothing store, gas station, large screen TV manufacturing and a Jeep agency. Jim enjoying spending time with his family water skiing, horseback riding, four-wheeling and having ice cream socials. Jim briefly retired in the 80's and traveled the states with his wife, Mickey. Needing a haircut one day, Jim stopped into a barbershop in Solana Beach, bought it and worked at his trade until he retired at the age of 90. He used to say the thing I miss most about retiring is not seeing all of my friends (customers) on a regular basis. He spent his last few years enjoying time with his family and friends and telling stories of his life. He is survived by his son, Ken; daughter-in- law, Pamela; and grandson, Jason. Services will be held Monday, August 25th @ 1 p.m. at Eternal Hills Memorial Park, 1999 S. El Camino Real, Oceanside, CA 92054 - (760) 754-6600.
