Evelyn L. Roen Obituary
Roen, Evelyn L. LA COSTA -- Evelyn Lewis Roen, 91, of La Costa, Ca., passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013. She was born March 28, 1922, in Los Angeles and was a 46 year resident of La Costa. Evelyn was an accomplished professional dancer performing at the famous Latin Quarter and Copa Cabana nightclubs in New York. Her career brought her to Las Vegas in 1950 as a member of the original Arden Fletcher chorus line for the opening of Wilbur Clark's Desert Inn Hotel. In 1951, she married Allard, her husband of 57 years. Evelyn was a competitive tennis player and golfer. In 1956, she won the ladies golf championship at the Desert Inn Country Club and then repeated the win again in 1982 at the La Costa Country Club. She enjoyed a wonderful life full of travel as well as numerous pastimes and interests including painting, needlepoint, reading and back- gammon. A dedicated fan of the L.A. Lakers and professional tennis; she rarely missed televised games and matches. She was preceded in death by her parents William and Anna Lewis, siblings Vernon Lewis, Marjorie Bennington, William Lewis and Izetta Hayward. Evelyn is survived by her children Priscilla Roen and Judith Roen Smith of Las Vegas Nevada, Jeffrey Roen of Troy, Michigan, and Melissa Roen of France. Evelyn is also survived by nine grandchildren and five great-grand- children and her beloved dog Kobe. She will be missed dearly by those she touched with her endearing friendship and gracious presence. Honoring Evelyn's wishes; no services are planned. The family requests donations in honor of Evelyn be made to the Make A Wish Foundation of Southern Nevada or the San Diego Humane Society.
