Jerome Apter Obituary

Jerome Daniel Apter, 83, died Saturday, March 9, 2013 at the Hospice House in Williamsburg following a seventeen-year battle with Parkinson's Disease.
He leaves his wife of 42 years, Joan (Green) Apter; his son, Norman and his wife, Eurydice; his daughter, Robin Gemerek and her husband, Joshua; three grandchildren, Beckhem (9), Henry (6) and Theodore Gemerek (4 months); and his brother, Harold.
Jerry was born in  Brooklyn, N.Y. on Feb. 18, 1930 to parents Ruth and Norman Apter. He graduated from New Utrecht High School in 1947 and continued on to receive a Bachelor's Degree from the Wharton School of Finance and Commerce, University of Pennsylvania.
After finishing his studies, Jerry spent two years stationed with the United States Army in Germany. Upon his return, he joined the Executive Training Squad at Macy's and became the Furniture Buyer for the New York region.
Jerry met his wife, Joan Green, while working at Macy's in New York City and they were married on Dec. 19, 1970 at the Williamsburg Inn.
Jerry continued his pursuits in the furniture business by becoming the Sales/Marketing Manager of the company West Michigan Design. In 1973, Jerry and Joan relocated to Lakeville, Ct. to raise their children in a more family-friendly environment. His family and he moved to Seattle, Wa. in 1984 in order for him to open a new branch of the European furniture chain Roche Bobois, and to serve as the store's vice president and manager.
He retired to Williamsburg in 1990. As long as Jerry was capable of doing so, he thoroughly enjoyed playing golf, aviation, traveling, reading, watching films, and spending time with his family.
An intimate funeral service will be held in June in Lakeville , Ct., a place dear to Jerry's heart and where he experienced some of the most enjoyable years of his life.
