Al White died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2012. He was 86 years old.
His service to James City County consisted of membership on the Planning Commission, the Historical Commission, and the Soil & Water Commission.
A native of Hampton, Al graduated from Hampton High School, Class of 1943.
Al was a veteran of World War II
, serving with "C" Company, 135th Battalion, and Combat Engineers in the last months of the war in Europe.
He graduated from Randolph Macon College in Ashland, Class of 1950. He worked with Newport News Shipbuilding for 15 years. During this time he worked with Sea Scouts 321, and served a term as President of the Peninsula YMCA.
The family moved to James City County in 1967, where Al farmed St. George and The Main. He was a member of Williamsburg United Methodist Church, where he served as Chairman of the Administrative Board and as a Trustee.
Al enjoyed the fellowship of Williamsburg Rotary, and he was proud of their good deeds.
Al is survived by his wife, Frances Murray White; his daughters, Martha W. Goodson and her husband, Royden; Catherine W. Kelley and her husband, Nelson; his sons, Albert White IV and his wife Deneise; Andrew White and his wife Katharyn; 10 grandchildren; his sister Barbara White Lord and her husband, Doug; his sister-in-law, Anne Forbes Murray.
Burial will be private. The family is at home.
