Curtis Sayre

WILLIAMSBURG - Curtis Sayre, 86, of Williamsburg, was promoted to glory on May 2, 2014. Curtis was a graduate of Cheshire Academy High School and went on to receive his B.A. degree from Penn State and his M.A. degree from Adelphia University. He proudly served with the U.S. Marines during the Korean War. Upon his return, he served as both a teacher and social worker, working for NYSTA, Dinwiddie Public Schools, and Dinwiddie Social Service. In his spare time, he enjoyed tennis, golf, reading, and gardening. He was also a member of the Salvation Army. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Sayre; son, Curtis Sayre (Natalie); daughter, Jill Cummins (Randy); grandchildren, Casey Cummins, Jackson Cummins, Richard Sayre and Ashley Sayre; and brother, Vaughn Von Beck Sayre . Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 10 at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg. Memorial contributions may be made in his honor to the Salvation Army of Williamsburg, 151 Kristiansand Drive, Suite 109, Williamsburg, VA 23188.
