Edward C. Fritsch, Jr., 87, of Williamsburg, passed away March 18, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward C. Fritsch, Sr. and Elizabeth Fritsch; his brother, Thomas Joseph Fritsch; his sister, Janet Fryer; and his son-in-law, Andrew Noble.
Ed proudly served as a carrier aviator in the U.S. Navy
for twenty-seven years, retiring in 1969 as a captain. Capt. Fritsch commanded VAH-6, flying the A-3 Skywarrior, deploying aboard USS Ranger in the Pacific and aboard USS Forrestal in the Mediterranean. He also commanded VAH-123 at NAS Whidbey Island, Wa.
His second career was as a certified financial planner, owning his own business in Annapolis, Md. In his second retirement, he enjoyed golfing, and volunteering at Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center. He was a member of St. Bede Roman Catholic Church in Williamsburg.
Ed is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ethel B. "Terry" Fritsch; three children: Carol Noble; Allen Fritsch (Beth); and James Fritsch (Eva Dillon); five grandchildren: Jessica Noble (Adam Faulkner), Jamie Noble, Steven Fritsch, Kenny Fritsch, and Taylor Fritsch; and a sister, Elaine Umani.
A memorial mass will be offered at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, March 22 at St. Bede Catholic Church, 3686 Ironbound Rd., Williamsburg. Interment will be at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
