Emerson P. Reid, 52, died Sept. 21, 2011.
He was born Dec. 29, 1959, in Williamsburg. He was a graduate of Lafayette High School and received a master of business administration as well as a master's degree in nursing from Hampton University.
Mr. Reid was an advanced practice registered nurse with a board certification.
Employed for more than 23 years, he spent most of his career at Eastern State Hospital, where he was a nurse manager coordinator.
He was an active member of Little Zion Baptist Church, where he served as a member of the Board of Trustees, member of the choir and as an usher.
He was preceded in death by his father Pernell Reid Sr.; and a brother, Alonzo Akrie.
He is survived by his mother, Rachel M. Reid; his siblings, Elder Clifton G. Washington Jr. (Joyce) of Virginia Beach, Melvina Kelly of West Columbia, S.C., Bonita C. Reid of Williamsburg, Pernell W. Reid Jr. of DeQueen, Ark., and Lenora G. Reid of Newport News; his nephew, Bradley C. Reid; his nieces; great-nieces and nephews; great-great nieces; three aunts and three uncles.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 27, at Little Zion Baptist Church, 8625 Pocahontas Trail, with the Rev. Linwood Gatling officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Family and friends will assemble at 218 Tarleton Bivouac by 10 a.m. on Tuesday. Mr. Reid may be viewed in Whiting's Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 26. The Reid family will also be receiving friends and family on Tuesday, Sept. 27, at 3 p.m. at 218 Tarleton Bivouac.
