Harvey Gene Silvers

Harvey Gene Silvers, 64, of Lynchburg went to be with the Lord on December 12, 2012 after a long illness surpassing 20 years. He was born August 6, 1948 in Erwin, TN, to Emery and Leah Hensley-Silvers-Little. e was a former resident of Bristol, VA and TN, and was a 1966 graduate of Virginia High School. He joined the Army and served in Vietnam 1966-68 and received many medals. He left Bristol in 1969 for a job with the FBI in Washington as a Fingerprint Technician and worked there for two years. That is where he met his wife Sue, and they married in 1971 in Warren, Rhode Island, where she was from. He later left the FBI and joined the Central Intelligence Agency as a Logistic Officer . He worked there from 1974 until his medical retirement in 1991. While with the CIA he received many awards and a signed picture of George H.W. Bush for working with the Secret Service on one of his visits to CIA headquarters. He had two overseas assignments with his family, in Japan and Honduras. Gene enjoyed his jobs with the agency and was honored to work for them.
He is survived by his former spouse, Sue Silvers of Williamsburg- mother of his children; daughter, Kelly Ann Carpenter of Chicago, Illinois and husband Charlie of Jacksonville, Florida; son, Jason Matthew Silvers and fiancee' Melinda Wargacki of Springfield, Ohio; brother, David Silvers and wife Patricia of Lynchburg, Virginia.
A graveside service was held at 3pm Saturday, December 15, 2012 at the Hensley Family Cemetery in Burnsville, NC. Military Honors were conducted by Sgt. E.L. Randolph, Chapter 57 DAV.
