Helen Van Horne (Jennings) Lindsay

Helen Van Horne Jennings Lindsay of Yorktown, 92, passed away Saturday, March 16, 2013, at her home. She was born in New York City to Angelo Taylor Jennings, former commissioner of revenue for York County, and his wife, Helen Vreeland Jennings. The Jennings family had lived in York County since 1930, and Helen was an active volunteer in the county. She served with the Girl Scouts, the Waterman's Museum, The Gallery at York Hall and Grace Episcopal Church, where she was a longtime member. Helen found joy in her work as a hostess for Colonial Williamsburg and in her family and friends. Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Floyd Edward Lindsay; and a daughter, Carole Lindsay Conques. She is survived by her daughter, Martha Lindsay Fenn and her husband, Dr. Raymond Camp Fenn, of Colonial Heights; her sisterm Barbara Jennings Insley of Newport News; grandsons, Anthony A. Conques (Kathy) of Louisiana, E. Andre Conques (Pamela) of Georgia and Andrew A. Conques (Kelly) of Texas; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Helen's niece, Susan Insley Nicolay, for her devotion to Helen. They would also like to thank York County Fire & Rescue/Life & Safety and Riverside Hospice for their prompt and caring assistance. The family is grateful to Helen's many friends for their kindness and prayers. A funeral was held on Tuesday, March 19, at Grace Episcopal Church in Yorktown. Interment followed in the church cemetery, with a reception afterward in the church parish house. Arrangements by Amory Funeral Home, Grafton.
