Joan Irene Darling, 86 of Williamsburg, passed away on November 7, 2013. She was preceded in death by her parents, Claire and Irene Hewitt Schnackenberg; husband, Robert D. Gentry and her second husband, Richard B. Darling.
As a lifelong Methodist, Joan attended Warwick Memorial United Methodist Church in Newport News and was a member of the Mary Freeman Circle.
Joan lived most of her life in Howell, MI., where she was born and raised, and in turn, raised her family. She moved to Lodi, California after marrying "Dick" Darling in 1990. Joan Darling moved to Williamsburg, Virginia in 2006 following the death of "Dick" Darling to live near her daughter. Joan loved Williamsburg, quickly made many friends, and entered into the life of the community. She was a Williamsburg Music Club member, enjoyed bridge, traveling (partly out of necessity), gardening, her church, and most importantly, being with her family. She spent her summers at her cabin in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
She is survived by her daughter, Cynthya and her husband, Charles; sons, Kort Gentry and his wife Sherrie and Bradley Gentry and his wife Anastasia; grandchildren, Douglas and his wife Heather Nothstine, Jack and his wife Jennifer Nothstine, Daniel and his wife Amber, Andrew, Holly, Brook Gentry and Phillip Britton and his wife Milinda; great- grandchildren, Jacob, Gwyneth, Leah and Barrett Nothstine; sisters, Maryellen Maas, and Ruth Deutsch; and brother, Dr. Robert Schnackenberg and his wife Linda. Also, many dear nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Howell Michigan on November 23, 2013, with a burial at Lakeview Cemetery.
