Joyce S. Benninghove

Joyce S. Benninghove, 76, of Lake Mary, Florida passed away peacefully on May 21, 2013 with her two sons standing at her bedside and holding her hands. A native of Skimino and Lightfoot, Virginia, she was a loving mother and devoted Christian.
She always found kind words about others, was never distracted by challenges or barriers and lived a wonderful life as a strong and caring person. Aside from spending time with family and friends, some of her preferred activities were playing Euchre, rooting for her favorite sports teams, the Redskins, Braves and Blue Devils or keeping up with the latest politics and news. Joyce moved to Florida to live near her sons and their families in 2006, three years after her husband John had died.
As a child, and much of her adult life, Joyce was an active member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, participated in bible studies and was a youth advisor. She was a member of the Rebekah-Ruth circle and helped make many blankets for charity. After moving to Florida, Joyce attended services at Trinity Lutheran Church in Orlando and participated with the Ladies' Ministry at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Lake Mary.
Before marriage, Joyce was a secretary for the U.S. Army and worked at Fort Eustis. After marrying, she chose to become a housewife and raise her two sons. Proud of her Norwegian ancestry, Joyce was a member of the Norse Federation, Williamsburg Chapter.
She is survived by her sons John Robert ""Rob"" Benninghove, II and his wife Shannon of Lake Mary, FL and Richard Alan ""Rick"" Benninghove and his wife Katie of Lakewood Ranch, FL, five grandchildren Jacob, Jessica, Jordan, Kyle and John, her sister Christine ""Tina"" and her husband Victor ""Vic"" Nielsen of Pensacola, FL and her nephews Christopher ""Chris"" Nielsen and Daniel ""Dan"" Nielsen of Birmingham, AL.
