Larry Nugent McLenagan passed away peacefully December 16, 2013 at Beaufort Memorial Hospital, formerly residing at Morningside Assisted Living.
Larry was born June 1, 1931 in Ashtabula, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Marge this year, just celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary, their son, Bruce Edward and parents , Leland Hubbard and Ida May Gape.
He is survived by his sister, Fran Dinwiddie of Virginia Beach, VA.
Larry was the father of five sons who were his pride and joy and considered his greatest accomplishments. Mike and his wife Shane and four daughters (Bethesda, MD), Robert and his wife Angie (Orlando, FL), William and his wife Peggy (Beaufort, SC) and John and one daughter(Chesterfield, VA). He was always bragging on his five sons and five granddaughters and one great grandson.
Larry was a graduate of Sharon High in PA and Virginia Tech in VA. In 1953 Larry was commissioned a second lieutenant in the US Army, Married Marjorie Silcox of Roanoke, VA, and graduated from Virginia Tech with a degree in accounting. Larry and Marge moved to Ypsilanti, Michigan at graduation, and worked for Ford Motor Company until he entered active duty in the Army on January 1, 1954. He served for two years as a platoon leader and then an executive officer in an automatic weapons battalion just outside of Munich, Germany. Larry joined AMF, Inc. in 1956 in Richmond, VA. He worked for AMF in accounting management positions, and then for the last eight years was president of UID Electronics in Hollywood, FL. He joined Robert Shaw Controls Company in 1982 and when he retired in 1989 he was the VP of Finance and Corporate Comptroller. In retirement Larry was involved in many volunteer organizations and projects and was a mentor to many.
Sailing was Larry and Marge's love and they enjoyed sailing the Florida Coast, Florida Keys and Chesapeake Bay. Larry was an avid golfer and loved spending family vacations at their beach house in Sandbridge, VA.
Memorial service will be 4:00 pm, December 21 at Carl Anderson Memorial Chapel with a Celebration of Life party to follow.
