Margaret S. Hardin

Margaret S. Hardin, 93, of Williamsburg, passed away on December 25, 2012. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dawson E. Hardin.
Margaret retired from the Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools, where she had begun working at Norge Elementary School in 1970 as an administrative secretary. Later, she moved over to Lafayette High School for its opening, where she worked as an administrative secretary before becoming the switchboard operator, and known as the ""Voice of Lafayette"". She retired from Lafayette in 1984.
A very active member of Williamsburg United Methodist Church, Margaret enjoyed participating in the Jean Craig Circle. She was a lifetime member of the Virginia Federation of Garden Clubs as well as the Exchangettes Club. She was also a devoted member of the Skipwith Farms Garden Club, serving as President and several other offices. She was also awarded the State Life Membership Award for Outstanding Work on several occasions. Margaret was also awarded the Garden Club Arbor Day Award, presented by the Williamsburg Area Council of Garden Clubs in 2005. Most of all, she loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and cherished spending time with them.
She is survived by her twin sister, Martha S. Byrd; her children, Thomas Vincent Hardin and his wife, Debi; and Alice Pha Vellines and her husband, Jeff; three grandchildren, Brandie Weiler and her husband, Steve; Ty Hardin and his wife, Rebecca; and Cody Hardin; three great-grandchildren, Madison Weiler, Mollie Weiler, and Dakota Hardin; special friends, Vivian and Charles Prescott; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Monday, December 31, from 10-11 AM at Nelsen Funeral Home, followed by a service at 11 AM. Interment will be at Williamsburg Memorial Park.
