Mary Anne Talbot Evans, of Williamsburg, peacefully passed away on Sunday, November 25, 2012 after a brief illness.
Born in Searcy, Arkansas to the late Frank and Elizabeth Talbot, Anne spent most of her childhood in Memphis, Tennessee. Anne graduated in 1953 from the Methodist School of Nursing in Memphis as a Registered Nurse. In 1954 Anne met the love of her life, Jim Evans, and they were married later that year. Jim's career took the couple to Chattanooga, Tennessee, Huntsville, Alabama and then to several locations in Florida. Anne and Jim retired to Williamsburg in 2005. Anne enjoyed working as a surgical nurse along with several nursing related jobs throughout the years, but her primary job was raising their two children. She was a dedicated volunteer in their communities, and she also enjoyed playing golf and bridge. Anne was the strength of the family while her husband traveled in his job. In their later years Anne and Jim enjoyed traveling to Korean Veteran meetings and spending time with their three grandchildren.
Anne was an amazing mother and grandmother. She will always be remembered for her quick wit and thoughtful wisdom. Her caring and compassion was visible to the end.
Anne was preceded in death by her son, Lt. William T. Evans, USN, her husband, James W. Evans, and her brother, Frank A. Talbot. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Carol (Bill) Downey, her grandchildren, Elizabeth, Robert and Anne Talbot, her sister-in-law, Martha Neal, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service to celebrate Anne's life will be held at Patriot's Colony on Friday, November 30, at 3:30 p.m., with interment at Arlington Cemetery at a later date.
