Russell W. BRussell Wardell Bowman, 81, died Sunday, Oct. 16, 2011, in Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was a lifelong and devoted member of First Baptist Church. He served his church as a member of the Hospitality Committee, the Senior Usher Board and the Men's Fellowship.
He was preceded in death by his son Terry, his parents, Marian Bowman Taylor and Ernest Wallace. Heis survived by his wife, Mary F. Bowman; his grand-daughter, Regina; his great grandsons, Malik, Terry and Ramone; his sisters, Hazel Taylor, Vivian Frazier (Preston) and Joyce Piggott (Raymond); his brothers, Raymond Bowman (Rosetta), George Wallace (Mary) and Kendall Wallace; his aunt, Elizabeth Edwards; his best friend and adopted mother, Irene Lee; a devoted niece and caregiver, Demetrye Harris; his daughter-in-law, Saundra Bowman; a host of devoted nieces, nephews and many loving friends.
A funeral service will be held at on Thursday, Oct. 20 at 11 a.m., at First Baptist Church, 727 Scotland Street, Williamsburg, with the Rev. Dr. Reginald F. Davis officiating. Interment will follow in Williamsburg Memorial Park. Mr. Bowman may be viewed in the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19. Mr. Bowman also may be viewed in the church Thursday, beginning at 10 a.m. until the hour of his service.
