Mary Boyd Obituary

Mary Jo-An Allen Boyd, 80, died on July 29, 2011. The daughter of the late William Benjamin Allen and Martha Finnie Schroeder Allen, she was born Oct. 14, 1930, in Powhatan County. She lived in Richmond with her late husband, Turner Southall Boyd, for 55 years. The two were lifelong members of Ramsey Memorial United Methodist Church. She spent the last 11 years living in Williamsburg with her daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and George A. Crawford.
Mrs. Boyd enjoyed a long and successful career in women's fashions as a supervisor for Thalhimer's Department Store in Richmond. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed playing the piano, flower gardening, and playing bingo. She also loved shopping and traveling with her daughter and granddaughter.
While in Williamsburg, she attended Williamsburg United Methodist Church, and was a member of the Respite Care Group there. She often said that the best thing about Williamsburg was the Chickahominy House, where she dined weekly.
Mrs. Boyd was preceded in death by her brothers, William "Buddy" Allen and Andrew Allen, and her sister, Martha Hansen Graham. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and George A. Crawford of Williamsburg; her granddaughter, Alison Boyd DoRemus and her husband, Ryan James DoRemus, of Austin, Texas; her grandson, George Brandon Crawford of Williamsburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held at Nelsen Funeral Home on Wednesday, Aug. 3, from 4 to 6 p.m. Services will be held at Nelsen Funeral Home on Thursday, Aug. 4, at 11 a.m., followed by a reception at the Crawford home, 6184 Mayfair Circle, Williamsburg, from 12 to 2:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held following the reception at 3 p.m. at Maury Cemetery in Richmond.
