Dorothy Rice Pickard

Dorothy Rice Pickard, 97, passed away September 27, 2013 at Patriots Colony, Williamsburg, VA. Born June 24, 1916 in Hopkinton, MA, Dorothy had been a resident of Marion, SC for many years. She is survived by her children, Mary Ellen (Steve) Shaw of Williamsburg and Linda (Jimmy) Long of Columbia, SC; grandchildren, James Henry Long, Blythe Grant Long, and Adair Carolina Long; sister-in-law, Dorenda Rice of Westboro, MA; along with several nieces and nephews. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Herbert H. Pickard; her two brothers, Alden Rice and Wendall Rice; and a sister, Florence Stewart. A gifted seamstress and homemaker, Dorothy has enjoyed any years of good health and she will be missed. Dorothy donated her body to the Medical University of South Carolina Anatomical Gift Program in Charleston, SC. The family wishes to thank the staff of Patriots Colony of Williamsburg for their care and compassion. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, October 3 at 11 a.m. in the Berkley Community Room at Patriots Colony, 6000 Patriots Colony Drive Williamsburg, VA 23188.
