Edgar Borg

Edgar H. Borg, 82, of Williamsburg died on Monday, May 23, 2011.
He was born in Sliema, Malta, in 1928, and his family came to the United States when he was about 2 years old.
Mr. Borg briefly served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
He had a love and passion for teaching history and economics, and spent 30 years with the New York City school system before com­pleting his career at Bryant High School in Woodside, N.Y. He was also involved in the creation of the United Federation of Teachers Union.
Mr. Borg was a devoted fan of the New York Islanders, and was an avid outdoors­man. He loved soccer, and served as a scout for the New York Cosmos, a former New York professional soccer team.
He also coached the New York City High School Soccer All-Stars to a second place victory. He co-authored "The Encyclopedia of American War Films" in 1989.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Annabeth; his sons, Stephen and David; his daughter, Debra; and grandchildren, Matthew, Devin Loh, and Kira Loh.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 27, at Nelsen Funeral Home. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.
