Judy Jan Brown passed away May 17, 2013.
The Guest Book is expired.
She was born in Chattanooga, Tenn. on April 5, 1956 to Judy McInturff and Stanley Eugene Brown. Jan's childhood was spent in Williamsburg. After graduating from Lafayette High School in 1974, she attended the University of Virginia and earned a degree in Elementary Education in 1978.
Jan taught in schools from Texas to Maine to Virginia, both private and public. As a teacher, she touched countless lives with her passion for learning and respect for children. Jan was a published author and poet. She was also an accomplished crafter.
Through the years she created wearable art, which she loved to share with others. Jan established residency in Virginia permanently to fulfill her desire to be close to her family, caring for her aging parents in Williamsburg and playing the important role of 'Aunt Jan' to her nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her parents, her sister, Bly, and her husband Bill; her brother, Mac, and his wife Mom; her niece Eleanor and nephew Kevin; her nephew Austin and his wife Colleen; and her niece Corinna and her husband Keith, as well as a host of friends far and near.
A celebration of Jan's life will be held at 4 p.m. on June 1 at Williamsburg United Methodist Church in the Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jan's memory to the Heritage Humane Society, 430 Waller Mill Rd., Williamsburg, 23185, or Hospice House, 4445 Powhatan Pky, Williamsburg, 23188.
